In addition, we've upgraded all of our coaches from the old air-conditioning
refrigerants (R12) to the newer, more environmentally sound, R134.
Our drivers are instructed to shut down buses when not loading or unloading
passengers. Less idle time means less smoke and particulate matter from exhaust,
not to mention less diesel being burned needlessly.
These are all things we've been doing for years but perhaps the greatest
changes will be in the plans we have to upgrade our engines and even the buses
themselves. We have a very aggressive plan that is already underway and
will continue thru 2010. Our plans include engine upgrades and
modifications (using particulate traps), and brand new buses. By the end of 2010
we will have reduced our particulate matter emissions by 94%.
